Key Responsibilities

As the Welding Manager, you will have comprehensive responsibility for the welding department. Your key duties are organized into critical areas:

Welding Operations And Quality Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all daily welding operations to meet production schedules, budget, and stringent quality standards.
  • Develop, qualify, and implement Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in full compliance with AWS, ASME, API, and other applicable codes.
  • Ensure the correct selection of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored, etc.) based on material type, thickness, and project specifications.

Team Leadership And Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise teams of welders, inspectors, and technicians, providing performance feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Organize and oversee training and certification programs to build team capability and ensure all personnel are qualified for their assigned tasks.
  • Enforce a zero-incident culture by strictly implementing all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling procedures.

Technical Oversight And Compliance:

  • Monitor weld quality through various inspection methods (VT, UT, RT, MT, PT), conduct root cause analysis for any defects, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain impeccable documentation, including welding logs, inspection reports, equipment calibration records, and personnel certifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to review blueprints, specifications, and provide accurate estimates for labor, materials, and timelines.

Resource And Safety Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and optimal functioning of all welding equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Manage the inventory of welding consumables (electrodes, wire, gas) to ensure availability and control costs.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, investigate any welding-related incidents, and implement preventive measures to ensure full compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and company policies.

Qualifications

This senior managerial role demands a high level of expertise and experience. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive professional experience (typically 8+ years) in welding, with a significant portion in a supervisory or management capacity within the marine, offshore, oil & gas, or heavy fabrication industries.
