The Sasebo Fleet Store has an opening for a detail-oriented Material Handler to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate receiving, verifying, moving, and stocking of merchandise that keeps our store running. This is a hands-on position perfect for someone who is organized, reliable, and capable of handling physical tasks. Key Responsibilities

You will play a key support role in our store’s logistics and inventory management. Your primary duties will include:

  • Loading and unloading merchandise from deliveries, carefully examining items for any damage or discrepancies in quantity.
  • Verifying that the type and amount of merchandise received matches shipping documents and promptly reporting any issues to a supervisor.
  • Unpacking, sorting, and stocking merchandise on sales floors and in storerooms according to established plans and instructions.
  • Assisting with periodic inventory counts by accurately counting stock items on shelves and in storage areas.
  • Moving designated layaway merchandise to and from secure storage areas, ensuring proper stacking and documentation.
  • Maintaining clean, safe, and orderly storage and sales areas.
  • Occasionally assisting customers with locating items and, on an infrequent basis, operating a cash register.

Qualifications

This position has specific eligibility and physical requirements. The successful candidate must:

  • Possess valid, current SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) sponsorship. This is a mandatory requirement for application; the position does not provide SOFA sponsorship.
  • Have at least six months of experience in a role involving loading, unloading, and verifying merchandise.
  • Be physically capable of standing, walking, and handling merchandise (with assistance for items up to 50 pounds) for extended periods.
  • Be able to work in an environment that may include controlled temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Be reliable and able to follow specific instructions while also working independently with general supervision.
  • Successfully complete required Hazardous Material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire.

This is a flexible part-time position within the military exchange system:

  • An hourly pay rate of $17.60, based on the NAF wage schedule.
