A growing consulting firm providing services to the US Federal Government and US Military is seeking a qualified Psychiatric Technician for an onsite position in Okinawa, Japan. Key Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient care for acute psychiatric and intermediate units, assisting with initial intake assessments, triage interviews, and patient orientation to unit procedures and policies.
- Perform ward searches, monitor use of dangerous items, and ensure patient safety at all times.
- Assist in a variety of treatment modalities including biofeedback, stress management, and group therapy while coordinating and performing routine training in prevention and management of assaultive behavior.
- Monitor patient safety and perform physical restraint procedures including applying manual and mechanical restraints when necessary.
- Manage agitated patients, identify and report symptoms of homicidal or suicidal ideation, and perform line of sight one on one observations.
- Foster therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients, observing patient progress during treatment and organizing patient groups and activities.
- Escort patients safely on and off the unit, manage elopement risks, and accompany patients on field trips.
- Transcribe physician’s orders and maintain all patient records including data entry and retrieval on CHCS and CIS computer systems.
- Perform diagnostic support duties including drawing blood for lab studies, collecting and labeling specimens, taking vital signs, and assisting physicians with diagnostic examinations.
- Respond to emergency situations within area of competence, initiating appropriate action and documentation for restraint calls, fire calls, and disaster situations.
- Schedule patient appointments through the CHCS computer system, coordinate with Primary Care Providers to contact patients who miss appointments, and manage outpatient front desk operations.
- Maintain confidentiality rules as applied to patient and health care provider interactions and instruct personnel in psychiatric patient rights.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program is required, or completion of equivalent education and experience that meets the requirements of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians. Candidates may also qualify through completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military with proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving neuropsychiatric nursing and an Armed Forces or civilian course in the care of developmentally disabled clients. National Certification as a Psychiatric Technician from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians is required. Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of experience as a psychiatric technician within the last two years. Two letters of recommendation written within the preceding two years from a manager, director, or direct supervisor of a Mental Health Clinic attesting to clinical skills, communication skills, ability to relate to patients, and interpersonal skills among staff members are required. US citizenship is required.
