Key Responsibilities
In this vital role, you will perform critical maintenance and preparation tasks on naval vessels. Your core duties will include:
- Performing bilge maintenance, pumping, and thorough cleaning of tanks, voids, cofferdams, and other confined compartments to prepare them for gas-free certification.
- Safely operating pumping equipment to transfer various fluids, including seawater, oily waste, fuel, potable water, and wastewater.
- Strictly adhering to all work packages, technical manuals, and safety directives, including OSHA and military regulations.
- Assisting with equipment setup, troubleshooting, breakdown, and ensuring all tools and PPE are properly maintained and used.
- Serving as a tank-void watch and fire watch, maintaining vigilant safety oversight during operations.
- Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards on the job site and ensuring all work is documented and reported accurately.
- Navigating various shipboard environments, including tight spaces, ladder wells, and heights exceeding four feet.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who are physically capable and committed to strict safety protocols. The requirements for this role are:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of relevant on-site experience in industrial cleaning, pumping, or a similar hands-on field.
- The ability to understand and execute basic functions for hose setups, air connections, and pumping operations.
- The physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, frequent bending, stooping, crawling, and working in confined spaces or extreme temperatures.
- Must be able to obtain tank/void watch and fire watch qualifications within the first two weeks of employment.
- Must be able to gain and maintain access to military and government installations.
- A strong, demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and following detailed procedures.
