Key Responsibilities

• Perform pre-trip inspections of your bus before each route, reporting any mechanical issues to your supervisor promptly.
• Keep your bus clean inside and out, including regular window and mirror cleaning, and fuel the bus as needed.
• Drive assigned routes on a set schedule, picking up and discharging students following Oklahoma State Department of Education guidelines.
• Maintain positive student behavior on the bus using district-approved procedures.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, fellow drivers, and school staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including route updates and trip logs.
• Attend scheduled training sessions and complete all required written and skills exams.
• Participate in practice emergency evacuations as scheduled.
• Drive any bus or route assigned by your supervisor as needed.
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance throughout the school year.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, safety-conscious, and enjoys working with children.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements, plus air brakes qualified.
• Clean driving record with no major violations.
• Ability to pass all required drug screens.
• Must not be insulin dependent diabetic, per DOT regulations.
• Physical ability to frequently ascend and descend bus steps unassisted, and assist physically disabled students on and off the bus when needed.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and push or pull up to 90 pounds (such as students in wheelchairs).
• Vision abilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Preferred Skills and Qualities:

• Friendly, patient demeanor when working with students and co-workers.
• Ability to read and understand maps and route information.
• Good observation skills to notice unusual student behavior and report concerns.
• Clear communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including temperatures above 100° and below 32°.
• Commitment to following all district policies and safety procedures.
• Team player who works well with supervisors and fellow drivers.
