We are looking for a Housekeeping Aide to join our interdisciplinary team at Park Place Home. You will perform general cleaning duties throughout the facility, including resident rooms, bathrooms, staff areas, offices, and common spaces. When assigned to laundry, you will collect, sort, launder, and return resident personal clothing and facility linens, following strict infection prevention and control protocols. Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping Duties
- Perform daily general cleaning duties throughout the home according to established routines and procedures.
- Clean resident rooms thoroughly, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing all surfaces.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms, replenishing soap, paper products, and linens as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness in staff rooms, offices, common areas, and other assigned zones.
- Ensure cleaning carts, equipment, and supply closets are organized, clean, and well-stocked.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the Support Services Manager promptly.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed to facilitate thorough cleaning.
- Follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including proper use of PPE and cleaning chemicals.
- Participate in fire safety programs, training sessions, and educational activities as assigned.
Laundry Duties (As Assigned)
- Collect soiled resident personal laundry and facility linens from designated areas throughout the home.
- Sort items by fabric type, colour, and care requirements prior to washing.
- Operate commercial washers and dryers according to established procedures and equipment guidelines.
- Measure and add detergents and cleaning agents safely and accurately.
- Fold, hang, sort, and return clean laundry to the appropriate residents and departments.
- Label resident clothing as required and maintain organized storage of personal items.
- Inspect linens and garments for damage or excessive wear, setting aside items requiring repair or replacement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary laundry work area.
Resident and Team Support
- Treat all residents with dignity, respect, and kindness in every interaction.
- Uphold resident confidentiality and privacy rights at all times.
- Respond to resident call lights and obtain appropriate assistance as needed.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members to support resident safety and wellbeing.
- Demonstrate commitment to Park Place’s “culture of safety” and strategic directions.
- Perform other duties consistent with the role as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience is preferred but not required—we value reliability, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
- Physically capable of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting for extended periods.
- Ability to manoeuvre cleaning equipment and laundry carts safely.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to treating residents with dignity and respecting their privacy and confidentiality.
- Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening as required by provincial regulations.
- Up-to-date immunizations in accordance with long-term care requirements.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in long-term care, retirement residence, or healthcare housekeeping/laundry.
- Knowledge of WHMIS, infection prevention and control protocols, and proper chemical handling.
- Familiarity with commercial laundry equipment and fabric care procedures.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
