This is the first stand-alone memory care residence on Vancouver Island, offering a secure, home-like environment for seniors living with dementia. Key Responsibilities
As a Laundry Aide, you’ll perform a variety of general laundry tasks to provide quality services for residents.
- Pick up soiled clothing and linens from each wing and neighbourhood throughout your shift.
- Prepare articles for washing by unbuttoning, running out pockets, and unrolling sleeves.
- Sort soiled laundry into appropriate loads, ensuring resident garments are never mixed with other linens.
- Follow all standard washing procedures, reading tags and care directions to ensure garments are laundered properly.
- Add soap solution and other chemicals according to standard washing procedures.
- Wash contaminated linens separately from all other linens.
- Dry resident clothing in dryers according to care instructions.
- Bag any dry-clean-only garments in plastic garment bags; notify supervisor to contact the responsible party for return.
- Distribute clean laundry to the appropriate residents.
- Mark garments inside clothing as needed; if any garments need repair, notify supervisor to contact the responsible party.
- Wear gloves and apron to protect yourself from soiled linens.
- Wash hands between handling soiled and clean laundry.
- Never wear soiled gloves while working in the neighbourhood.
- Maintain equipment used in daily duties, cleaning washers and dryers after each shift and cleaning dryer lint filters after each use.
- Report any mechanical issues to the Maintenance Director, Executive Director, or designee for immediate repairs.
- Use protective eyewear when handling liquids or chemicals.
- Perform any miscellaneous work assignments as required.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, physically capable, and committed to providing quality service in a specialized care environment.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read and understand directions.
Experience:
- Previous laundry or housekeeping experience is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Exert considerable force frequently and intermediate force constantly to move objects.
- Tasks require reaching, walking, handling, talking, hearing, visual near acuity, bending, and stooping.
Working Conditions:
- Inside and outside work on occasion, with exposure to noise, vibrations, heat, temperature changes, and wet or humid conditions.

- Sits 2 hours per day; stands and walks 6 hours per day (combined 8-hour day)
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work: exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity:
- Must have intact color vision, depth perception, and field of vision for resident care and assessment.
Environmental Factors:
- Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
- May be exposed to hazards, including some hazardous waste.
- May be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation affecting the respiratory system or skin.
